- Not Self-sufficient anymore
In an important video shared across social media platforms, Shenaz offers a striking message imploring people to change their approach to visiting Ladakh. Known for its magnificent scenery and distinct cultural legacy, Ladakh has long been a favorite destination for adventurers and nature enthusiasts. However, as Shenaz points out, the increase in tourism has resulted in serious environmental problems that jeopardize the fundamentals of this region.
Shehnaz on Ladakh Tourism:
Shenaz begins by providing a clear image of the harsh reality experienced by the people of Ladakh, who endure severe temperatures and natural problems. Despite these hurdles, Ladakh has historically been self-sufficient in food, clothing, and housing. Nevertheless, this delicate equilibrium has been upset by the flood of tourists, with over 80% of goods now coming from outside the area.
Increased pollution, the loss of natural resources, and the strain on the community's infrastructure are all direct results of unsustainable tourist activities. Shenaz stresses that Ladakh cannot accommodate the current volume of tourists, particularly in light of the region's delicate ecosystem and finite resources.
Shenaz emphasizes the critical need for action to lessen the impact of human activity on the environment by drawing comparisons to the environmental disasters that other cities, including Delhi and Bangalore, are currently experiencing. She emphasizes that even though Ladakh has a remote and unspoiled appearance, unrestrained tourism can nevertheless have negative consequences on the region.
Shenaz makes a sincere appeal to tourists, urging them to reevaluate their itinerary and choose eco-friendly travel strategies that put local communities' needs and environmental preservation first. She asks visitors to give the area a much-needed rest, emphasizing the value of letting Ladakh alone recover from the harm caused by over-tourism.
