Son Doong Cave is a mesmerizing underground wonder that gives you the sensation of walking through an underground royal palace. With a length of 9 kilometres, it resembles an otherworldly avatar with dimensions vast enough to accommodate more than 68 Boeing 777 airplanes. Inside this breathtaking cave, you'll encounter stalactites reaching over 80 meters in height, creating a surreal environment that even hosts a thriving rainforest.
What makes Son Doong Cave truly unique is its self-contained ecosystem, making you feel like a dwarf within its expansive chambers. The cave boasts its own lake systems, adding to the enchantment of this natural marvel. Located in the Phong Nha National Park in North Central Vietnam, Son Doong Cave promises an unparalleled adventure for those seeking to witness the grandeur of Earth's subterranean beauty.
How To Visit Son Doong Cave
Planning a trip to Vietnam with the sole purpose of visiting this cave, travel influencer, Radhika Nomllers discovered upon reaching Phong Nha National Park that access is strictly controlled, limited to 1000 visitors annually, and even locals are prohibited from entering.
To secure a chance to explore Son Doong Cave, one must book a tour 3-4 years in advance, involving a week-long expedition with extensive preparation, medical check-ups, and a cost of around USD 3,000. Each tour includes 10 guests, a safety expert, a tour guide, safety assistants, cooks, porters, and a ranger from Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park.
How To Visit Paradise Cave
Asia's longest dry cave, Paradise Cave, was discovered in 2005 and stretches 31km deep into the limestone karst. To visit Paradise Cave, plan your stay in Dong Hoi, rent a motorbike, and drive to Phong Nha. While it's easy to explore the cave independently with one of the largest footbridges inside a cave, organized tours are available for those wishing to camp overnight and venture deeper into the cave.
Son Doong Cave is a dream come true, with dimensions capable of accommodating New York's skyscrapers. Notably, it features a mesmerizing passage imprinted with corals fossilized hundreds of million years ago. In fact, there are other breathtaking caves as well which brings in the thought of what a fascinating world we live in!
