Influencers and content creators are creating enough buzz to stay in the limelight. But the recent reactions of the Mom Bloggers made headlines as they called out Cosmopolitan magazine nomination for the category. After the strong reactions from the mother creators, the magazine had to open the nomination again. Whosthat360 has exclusively connected with influencers to know more about the same. Here's what they said;
Simone Khambatta has given a strong reaction. She said, "I truly believe there is no more powerful voice than a mother. My team sent me this post and I was furious and sad. It has been years since we requested the Cosmo team for the mom blogger category, finally, that happened but with the wrong nominations. But finally, things are okay, what ends well is all well. I knew that when I was putting those stories, people started reacting and tagging Cosmo with those screengrabs. Thanks to Malvika Sitalani and Juhi Godambe for supporting the purpose. Also, it speaks high volumes of Cosmo to take a note and correct it."
Calling it unfair, Prerna Sinha said, “I entered the mom blogging space 12 years back, and honestly while this niche has bagged the most amount of campaigns we have never gotten the eyeballs. I remember as early as 2015 there were hardly any mom blogging events happening today where moms influencers are hosting multiple events a month.”
She added, “Still we are the poor cousins to most niches. We are not given the respect and recognition we deserve. Very recently a powerful media house included the mom influencer category in their awards after years of requesting them to do the same and everyone in the mom influencer space was excited. However, when the nominees were announced the women mentioned were fashion influencers who had just become mommies. This came out as completely unfair and for once the entire community called out the media house. There were reels/posts/stories shared across the community and everyone came together to express their views and it went viral. So much so that the media house had to pull down the nominations and that is what I call the power of mom influencers. We are fierce, we are no pushovers and it's high time they realize that we can't be ignored.”
Shrima Rai has also reacted to this ongoing controversy. She mentioned, “The mom blogging community is an important representation of modern mothers across India & the support from major digital/ print media helps to further the representation. Therefore it has to be accurate."
She added, "The concern here was the broader notice that when women are excelling in their field or niche work and become mothers, suddenly they are stereotyped as moms only. This is not progressive and when media sends that message out it impacts Indian women to a fair amount. So the responsibility of representing and highlighting women correctly is of utmost importance. The mom blogging community has been around for years and yet hasn't been given these types of Awards on major platforms, so it is very important that when it is finally done it is done accurately. It is a matter of representing women and mothers correctly."
"The mom blogging community came into existence because a few of us many years back felt like there wasn't a proper representation of mothers on social media or enough content on motherhood. So it's important like any other section of content creators they are represented and understood for what it is. I think when that didn't happen, mothers could unite to bring about the change that is fairly due. It's great that platforms are being more inclusive to mothers and different segments," she concluded.
Talking about the same, Prerna Wahi said, "I still remember the time, when after a flourishing corporate career I quit my job for motherhood & took up blogging. My biggest task then was to explain to people what exactly it is that I do. My biggest win was when I was able to tell my 85-year-old grandmother about my work."
She added, "Forward to now, where everyone knows these terms & understands the work we do. The biggest win is when we all come together for a cause. It was seen recently when the mom influencer community got together to call out what was wrong & the platform was gracious enough to hear our voice & accept their mistake. I truly believe in the power of digital media & feel if used in the right way to inspire others, it can do good. We have built a mom tribe here & an opportunity to grow together."
The reactions of the mom bloggers are justified as they have valid points to support their arguments for this ongoing nomination controversy.
