- Straightforward or Rude?
A screenshot of an email from a Gen Z worker asking for leave has caused a big debate on social media. The image was shared by investor Siddharth Shah on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, “How my Gen Z team gets its leaves approved.”
Straightforward Leave Request: Employee Keeps It Simple
What makes this email stand out is how direct and straightforward it is. The employee doesn't follow the traditional way of asking for permission to take leave or explaining the reason for it. Instead, they simply inform their boss about their planned absence.
The email is very simple and direct. Instead of asking for permission or explaining why they need time off, the employee just tells their boss he will be on leave. The message says, "Hi Siddharth, I will be on leave on 8th November 2024. Bye."

In today's corporate culture, most employees usually ask for time off in a polite, formal manner, often explaining why they need the leave or even apologizing for any inconvenience. But this email takes a much simpler approach—just a statement of intent without any pleasantries, explanations, or apologies. And it has created some controversy.
Here's How People Responded:
The post has gone viral, getting over 1.8 million views in just a day. Many people have reacted to the email. Some were shocked by how blunt the email was, while others thought it was totally normal.
One user commented, "And if I had sent this message to my manager, he would have scheduled a meeting with HR to discuss my behavior issues." Another person wrote, "The best part is they tell you they are on leave and don't ask." A third comment read, "Normalise this. People shouldn't have to give reasons if they want to take an off. It's their right."
What do you think? Should employees be able to request leave this way, or does it undermine workplace etiquette?
