- STAG GAY MEN DISCRIMINATED!
- "Why this whole fuss about stags not being allowed," he questions.
“This started almost a year back when the prominent clubs of Delhi opened up and for which I was invited but when I reached the venue, I was stopped by the management saying that “stags not allowed.” We were asked to wait and it was humiliating,” starts off Anker Talwar, a popular content creator in Delhi.
THE CONTEXT: STAG GAY MEN DISCRIMINATED!
Just recently, Anker (popularly known as @pepper_diaries) posted a long story on his Instagram handle stating his displeasure and plea to the brands and PR agencies to take note of this situation where single, gay men are being sidelined and not allowed entry at events if they come solo. “Why this whole fuss about stags not being allowed,” he questions.
While the event scene in the Capital city is booming with multiple parties and launches each day, deep down inside lie some ugly truths.
“Recently, I also noticed that when I was invited for a launch – the hostess specifically sent a message saying: ‘It's a couple-only scene.' Though the host was a friend so she gave me the privilege to attend the event but many single men don't have plus ones, who are not entertained at such parties. WHAT ABOUT THEM?”
GAY HOSTS ARE IN DEMAND BUT…
“As a guy and a male content creator, we are invited to properties to come and promote but the brands are clear they want only couple scene at parties and launches which is absurd. It's not like stags will create any ruckus. We are civilized social men!”
“It is sheer discrimination. A lot of gay men also face this problem. These days, gay creators are in demand to host events as they have a super stylish fashionable crowd but I have seen at such parties, men are either not served well or sidelined. I've seen friction and clashes. It's quite humiliating,” he shares.
NOW WHAT CAN BE DONE? THE SOLUTION…
“Many gay men are told to invite only pretty girls and good looking men. It's quite messed up when it comes to hosting an event in Delhi. Here: It's important that the host put their foot down. It is hosts' responsibility to invite relevant civil people to a party. Then brands, clubs and restaurants should not interfere at all,” Anker suggests.
He further adds: “It's important for brands and hosts to be sensitive, sensible and more liberal in their thinking. Like me, all male creators – gay or not – should have the freedom to walk in at a party – SOLO AND HAPPILY SINGLE!” Anker puts in his final word.
