- "Fundamental rights not on the platter..."
The Supreme Court allowed Ranveer Allahbadia to resume airing his podcast, 'The Ranveer Show' albeit with a few conditions. The top court, while extending protection from arrest to Allahbadia, asked him to maintain 'decency' on his show.
Ranveer Granted Protection from Arrest:
With this order, Allahbadia, who is facing charges in Maharashtra and Assam, has also been granted protection from arrest until further orders from the apex court.
SC directed Allahbadia to join the probe against him in Guwahati. Allahbadia had requested the Supreme Court to allow him to air his shows on social media amid the top court's restrictions. "Only source of livelihood," Allahbadia had said in his request to SC.
However, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta argued that Allahbadia should be asked to 'remain silent'. "Let him remain silent for some time," SG Mehta was quoted as saying in the top court.
"Fundamental Rights Not On A Platter..."
The Supreme Court, while giving Allahbadia relief, said that his popular podcast show should be deemed suitable for all age groups. "Fundamental rights not on a platter, there are certain restrictions," SC told Allahbadia.
The bench told senior advocate Abhinav Chandrachud, who was representing Allahbadia, that fundamental rights were not "served on a platter" and came with certain restrictions.

"Don't Take The Court Lightly..."
Justice Surya Kant further pointed out that one of the accused in the case had gone to Canada and made statements about the matter. "These youngsters may think that we are outdated but we know how to deal with them. Don't take the court lightly," the judge cautioned.
The bench then restrained Allahbadia from making any statements related to the case on his show. However, it refused to allow the YouTuber to travel abroad for the time being, stating that his request would be considered only after he cooperated with the ongoing investigation.
Furthermore, the top court asked the Centre to formulate guidelines on regulating social media content and take suggestions from all stakeholders involved.
About the Controversy:
On February 19, the Supreme Court had directed the social media influencer, also known as BeerBiceps, to halt airing any shows, including on YouTube, pending further orders. This came after Allahbadia's controversial comments on the YouTube show 'India's Got Latent'.
The apex court granted Allahbadia interim protection against arrest but imposed conditions, such as his full cooperation with investigations in Thane, Maharashtra, and Guwahati, Assam, where multiple FIRs had been filed against him.
