Social media sensation and actor Rupali Ganguly has joined the growing outcry against the destruction of 400 acres of forest land in Kancha Gachibowli, Rangareddy district, Telangana. Expressing her deep concern over the issue, Rupali took to social media to highlight the environmental devastation caused by deforestation in Hyderabad.

"Destroying A Forest For An It Park?"

Expressing her deep concern she posted on X, she wrote, "Cries of birds and peacocks in the Hyderabad forest and the visuals of the bulldozers keep playing in my mind. God bless the protesting students and the alumni for fighting for the voiceless… As of now, it is a relief that the Supreme Court has halted the clearing of the Hyderabad forest, and I hope that this becomes permanent, and deforestation stops! Destroying a forest for an IT Park?? Ridiculous how the land mafia is catered to!"

"Be The Voice For The Voiceless..."

She added, "Also, I wonder where all the celebrities and activists protested for weeks during the Save Aarey campaign. It was highlighted nationally and internationally… We need you all again to raise your voice for Kancha Gachibowli. Both forests are our lungs—Aarey 81 acres and Hyderabad 400 acres. When Mother Nature doesn't discriminate, why are we? Let's come together and be the voice for the voiceless. #Deforestation #KanchaGachibowli”

Her statement has resonated with environmental activists, sparking renewed calls for national and international attention on the issue. Many supporters have echoed her sentiments, demanding stricter protection of urban forests.

Supreme Court's Intervention:

The Telangana government, through its Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC), had proposed to auction the land—located in Hyderabad's IT hub—for developmental projects. The Supreme Court has taken serious note of the large-scale deforestation in Kancha Gachibowli and halted further clearing of the land. It has also sought an explanation from the Telangana government on the urgency behind this project and warned all states to properly identify and protect forested areas. Telangana has since formed an expert panel to assess the situation.

The protests against deforestation in Kancha Gachibowli have gained momentum, with students, environmentalists, public figures, and concerned citizens taking to the streets and social media.

As the legal battle continues, the focus remains on ensuring that Hyderabad's urban forests are not sacrificed at the altar of rapid urbanization. With influential voices like Rupali Ganguly joining the cause, the fight to preserve Kancha Gachibowli's biodiversity is gaining strength, underscoring the urgent need for sustainable development over reckless deforestation.
