Pahalgam Attack: Elvish Yadav Recalls College Days With Navy Officer Vinay Narwal's Wife

YouTuber and 'Bigg Boss OTT 2' winner Elvish Yadav has shared a deeply personal link to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that claimed 26 lives. Among the victims was Indian Navy Lieutenant Vinay Narwal. Elvish revealed that Narwal's wife, Himanshi—who survived the attack and has since spoken publicly about the horrifying incident—was his college friend from Hansraj College.

"We Studied Together..."

In a recent YouTube vlog, Elvish said he hadn't recognized her at first while watching her emotional video. "It was only after watching it a second time that I realized—this is Himanshi. We studied together at Hansraj. I graduated in 2018 and we hadn't been in touch since, but I remember us going to the metro station together… She was a part of those carefree college days," he recalled.

"I Didn't Call Her..."

Elvish added, “I didn't call her. What could I say? What do you say to someone who has just watched her husband be taken from her like that?" Instead, he reached out to a mutual friend who tried contacting Himanshi. "She didn't answer the first 30 calls but finally picked up the 31st time. She told our friend that what is being said is true—that the terrorists asked about religion before opening fire," he said somberly.

Lieutenant Vinay Narwal and Himanshi had tied the knot just weeks ago, on April 16. They were in Baisaran, a scenic spot near Pahalgam in Anantnag district, for their honeymoon. According to family, the couple had initially planned to go to Switzerland, but due to visa delays, chose Kashmir instead.

The attack, which targeted mostly tourists including two foreign nationals, left the nation in shock. Eyewitnesses confirmed that the assailants questioned the victims' faith before shooting. Himanshi later told the media that she and Vinay were enjoying bhel puri when a man approached and asked if her husband was Muslim. When he said no, the gunman shot him in cold blood.

Vinay Narwal was laid to rest with full military honors in his hometown of Karnal, Haryana, on Wednesday evening.

Elvish Yadav ended his vlog with a heartfelt message: “This could have happened to anyone. It has shaken me. My prayers are with Himanshi and all the other families who lost their loved ones. May we never become numb to this violence."
