“The experience was surreal definitely,” Niki starts off. While the media and fashion commentators are definitely having a field trip taking digs at what creators wore at Cannes, luxury influencer Niki Mehra believes in staying positive as she shares her thoughts on the subject.
Questioning the presence of creators
While multiple POVs are trolling the creators' presence at International platforms, Niki has an apt answer for everyone: “While the film v/s fashion debate on the Cannes carpet has always been there, I understand this year, the relevance of influencers on the carpet was questioned. But I believe with more and more brand sponsors wanting to partner with influencers on such a huge global platform and the fact that so much attention was given to what everyone was wearing, goes to prove that fashion and beauty are also an important part of the carpet now.”
Initial thoughts on Cannes 2024: “I love that we are at an age where influencers are making an impact and driving ROI (Return on investment) on social media through their fashion at the Cannes carpet. So for the audience, who were earlier seeing only celebrities are now seeing their next door favourite influencer on the carpet and therefore it feels more accessible to them,” she says.
With so many good experiences happening one after another for Niki, she wants to absorb and enjoy each moment. Talking about what she learns from such experiences, she says: “Learnings are many. This is such a huge international event with so many stakeholders involved. The funny thing is the red carpet is probably the smallest part of the Cannes experience. From the influencer's POV, Cannes is about being able to find the right brand partners, stylists, and designers from your country or otherwise who want to leverage your platform on such a big scale. Once you are here, you realize people's passion for films and the amount of work that goes into a creative process, and as a deeply inspiring creator.”
