A social media influencer is in deep water after posting a fake story about a kidnapping online. Victoria "Woah Vicky" Rose surprised fans when she claimed she was kidnapped in Nigeria and the kidnappers demanded a $1 million ransom to release her. The post, which she uploaded on her X account (previously Twitter), rapidly went viral, raising concerns among her fans.
However, when Vicky removed the post and subsequently acknowledged in an Instagram livestream that it was all a prank, things took a different turn. "Sorry about that, everything's good, ya'll," she remarked in the live stream. "I was bored and just having fun, trying to get a laugh." Her followers did not find it funny; several referred to her behavior as "disturbing" and "irresponsible."
Fans and Friends Fooled by the Fake Story
Even some of Woah Vicky's friends fell victim to her fake kidnapping story and even began posting messages saying they were worried about her safety. Some even said they had filed a police report. This only added to the confusion and outrage, since her followers believed it at first.
This decision to "prank" her audience backfired, and the influencer ended up facing several criticisms from her followers, questioning her judgment as well as motives.
Past Controversies Add to the Criticism
This is not the first time Woah Vicky has been caught in controversy. She was also under fire recently when she made a post revealing the kind of partner she sought. In it, she expressed a desire for a "Successful Black Athlete" and specified a football or basketball player. Most people found the remarks problematic and racist, stating that she had racially insensitive views.
Woah Vicky's Reputation Takes a Hit
After the kidnapping prank and the earlier partner search post, Woah Vicky's reputation really took a huge hit. Her actions leave very serious questions about her conduct online and if she actually knows the impact of posting such content. Fans are now wondering if she will ever face real consequences for the stunts she pulls.
