Creator Meghal Sahni Hosts A Plantation Drive; Plants 120 Trees!

It takes one noble cause to start an initiative. Recently, content creator Meghal Sahni aka ‘Mummy on the Roll' hosted a ‘Tree Plantation and Plant Adoption Drive.' She joined hands with the Municipal Councilor of Rajouri Garden, Delhi - Mrs. Shashi Talwar and became a part of the government scheme for green Delhi with a mission to plant at least 100 trees. The initiative was hosted in collaboration with Aartex Furnishings and Relief and You Foundation.

"Planting More Trees Is A Prime Solution..."

Meghal is a finalist in the Mrs India Planet contest this year and she's thankful to the organization which encourages women to push their limits. She shares her thoughts behind this initiative. “In the past few years we all have witnessed drastic climate changes and calamities throughout the world and in the next couple of months like every passing year, our city, Delhi would also become a smoke chamber due to crop burning and high pollution levels. Planting more trees is a prime solution to pollution. I know that just the 120 trees that we have planted are not enough to provide a breath of fresh air for everyone. However, with this small initiative, I aimed at bringing together more people and working as a community towards making our city greener and pollution-free.”

With a gathering of more than 80 guests, she successfully planted 120 trees! “We engaged children, adults and elderly in plantation and many more environmental awareness activities like Eco-trivia, ways for plastic bottle reuse and a kids' parade emphasizing on saving the planet,” she proudly tells us.

So since Meghal is a content creator by passion, we asked her how does she aim to bring about social change and awareness through these causes?

This is what she told us. “Social work has always been a way of life for me but I have always kept it very personal as I do not do it for applause but for my soul satisfaction and earning good Karma. But I have realized that being a content creator, showcasing my efforts can help me inspire and attract many more like minded individuals to work with for a bigger impact. I
have already started posting about the different places I visit for fulfilling my social responsibilities towards the voiceless; towards the homeless and towards the environment. After the tree plantation event, I had so many DMs asking me how to plan a drive and how they can do their bit. That gave me the idea and a purpose to use my social platform to spread more awareness about how and what everyone can do to contribute to the society,” says Meghal.

Megha's Special Message for Parents:

As a mom and social media personality, Meghal wishes to spread a message to all parents while involving her children in social skills and awareness.

“As a mom of 2 girls, I want a healthy and safe world for my kids. I know they are the future and I wish for them to start young and realize their social and environmental responsibilities by actively involving them in all the social activities. By doing so, I aim to make them realize the toughest of life sufferings and develop empathy towards all beings-humans, animals and plants. We donate every year for their clothes and toys. The first time they were quite hesitant to give away but when they saw the smiles of the underprivileged children that we donated to, they started being more detached to the material things and understood the joy of giving,” she shares.

Her kids also support her social initiatives. “I feel my kids are more responsible than me when it comes to the environmental responsibilities. Thanks to the school for their commendable efforts in inculcating environmental awareness in them. They often stop me from buying more clothes and ask me to upcycle and restyle the ones I already have. My elder daughter was the one to start the 3 dustbin concept at our house. She makes sure we segregate the waste properly. On her birthday last year, she asked me to plant 100 trees as her birthday gift. I used all my contacts and even asked everyone on social media about how I can get plantation drive done, but unfortunately I had no answers and I just ended up donating at Isha Foundation for tree plantation. I am so glad that this year I was able to fulfill her wish. My kids were the happiest and my biggest cheerleaders when they got.
