The famous Irish MMA fighter, Conor McGregor, announced that he has signed a preliminary agreement for a boxing exhibition match with American social media star Logan Paul, who is seeking to establish himself in boxing. McGregor shared the news on social media, revealing that he is in talks with the Ambani family, connected to billionaire Mukesh Ambani. McGregor mentioned that the fight would take place in India and that he had agreed to all the terms.
McGregor Denies UFC Fight Rumours
McGregor has also addressed reports about a potential fight with UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria. He refuted the allegations, stating that he plans to focus on returning to the UFC only after his boxing match against Logan Paul. Topuria also dismissed the rumours on social media, even calling out McGregor with harsh words.
Legal Troubles Surround McGregor
McGregor announced his boxing match just a few weeks after a civil court jury in Ireland ruled that he must pay nearly $257,000 to a woman who had accused him of serious crimes. This incident dates back to December 2018 in a hotel penthouse in Dublin. Legal issues have frequently surrounded McGregor, especially as he plans his comeback to the ring.
Logan Paul's Boxing Career
Logan Paul, who first gained popularity as a YouTuber, has recently picked up boxing. In 2021, he competed in an exhibition battle against unbeaten retired boxer Floyd Mayweather. Although Paul did not win, he lasted eight rounds against the unbeaten Mayweather, earning him respect in the boxing community. His brother, Jake Paul, has also made headlines in boxing, most recently defeating former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson in a highly publicized match.
Emerging Interest in Exhibition Matches
The news of McGregor and Paul's fight comes on the heels of another major boxing event, Jake Paul's match against Mike Tyson, the first-ever live sports event streamed on Netflix. The fight was a massive success, reaching 60 million households, and demonstrated how exhibition matches between professional fighters and influencers can attract a broad audience.
