Mumbai Police filed an FIR against comedian Kunal Kamra on Monday for allegedly making defamatory remarks about Maharashtra deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde during a show, which led to Shiv Sena members damaging The Habitat Comedy Club in Khar and a hotel where the performance was filmed.

Kunal Kamra Lands In Legal Trouble:

The FIR was registered at MIDC police station under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 353(1)(b) for statements conducing to public mischief and 356(2) for defamation, following a complaint by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel.

The controversial performance included a nearly 2-minute video where Kamra mocked the ruling NCP and Shiv Sena, using a modified version of a Hindi song from "Dil To Pagal Hai" to taunt Shinde. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut shared the video on X with the caption "Kunal Ka Kamal."

A large group of Shiv Sena workers vandalized both the comedy club and Hotel Unicontinental premises on Sunday night.

About the Controversy:

Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske issued a stern warning to Kamra through a video message: "You will be forced to flee India." "Once the fangs are out, there will be dire consequences," Mhaske warned, calling Kamra a "contract comedian" and alleging he had accepted money from Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray to target Shinde.

"You should not have stepped on the tail of a snake," Mhaske added, apparently referring to Shinde.

Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel demanded an apology from Kamra, stating he would show "Kamra his level."

Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray criticized the vandalism at the venue through a post on X: "Mindhe's coward gang breaks the comedy show stage where comedian @kunalkamra88 put out a song on eknath mindhe, which was 100 percent true. Only an insecure coward would react to a song by someone."

"By the way, law and order in the state? Another attempt to undermine the CM and Home Minister by Eknath Mindhe," Thackeray added.

The Habitat Comedy Club, where the incident occurred, was also the venue for the controversial 'India's Got Latent' show.
