Alia Bhatt's sister and author Shaheen Bhatt has never shied away from sharing her long battle with depression publicly. Now, she has recently shared a snippet of a video in which she mentioned that because of depression she used to think she was an odd kid.

Shaheen: I Was About 12...

She said, "Depression started when I was very young; I was about 12... 11 or 12 [years old]. At that time, there was no emotional vocabulary. Even depression was not really being talked about when I was growing up."

"Oh, I Am An Odd Kid"

Talking about the issue, she added back then people were least vocal about such issues. "I didn't really know what I was going through. Growing up, I was like, 'Oh, I am an odd kid. There is something wrong with me. Why am I sad all the time? Why is everybody else happy and I am sad?' I wondered why things were easier for other people than they were for me," she concluded.

This is not the first time but Shaheen often talks about mental health issues and depression openly. Earlier during an exclusive interview with the Hindustan Times, she revealed the reason why she chose to go public about her struggle with depression. She said, "My entire reasoning for wanting to talk about this is the fact is I honestly, truly believe that even if it's not mental illness, every one of us is struggling with some kind of pain. Pain is universal, and happiness is unfortunately not universal. And we have all got very used to not discussing uncomfortable things. That was very important for me to sort of let my guard down, to begin with, because I felt it was really holding me back.”
