Imagine walking into Room A. The space is cluttered with trash, empty water bottles, half-open biscuit packets, and spilled coffee. The room hasn't been cleaned in a while, and it stinks. Now, think about how you would react. Would you hesitate to toss a small chocolate wrapper onto the pile? Probably not. The existing mess unconsciously gives you permission to contribute to it.

Now, picture yourself entering Room B. This room is spotless, freshly vacuumed, and smells pleasant. Would you feel comfortable throwing a wrapper on the floor? Most likely, you'd put it in your bag or pocket and dispose of it properly later. The cleanliness and order of the room create a sense of respect and responsibility.

They might unconsciously learn that it's acceptable to disregard your feelings or needs because that's the message you're sending.

On the other hand, if you respect yourself, prioritize your well-being, and establish firm boundaries, others will follow suit. They will recognize that you value yourself and will treat you with the same respect. This is the essence of teaching others how to treat you.
