- A must-read for every parent and teenager
Netflix has released a new series named Adolescence that explores the powerful and emotional story of a 13-year-old boy named Jamie who murders someone. The series talks about how social media influences young minds. After watching this, Sadhguru, a well-known spiritual leader, shared her thoughts on the topic of growing up in today's digital world.
Relationships at a Young Age
Sadhguru speaks about rising trends wherein teens as young as 12 or 13 are pressured to have a boyfriend or girlfriend. She feels that such emotions are basically physical attraction, and teen brains at this stage of development do not possess the kind of emotional maturity required to handle such emotions. Hence, it is unfair to expect emotional maturity from them.
"She's Mine": A Dangerous Idea
Sadhguru explains that when a young boy starts feeling attracted to a girl, his body reacts. Influenced by movies and social media, he starts thinking, “She's mine.” This idea is repeated everywhere: in stories, films, and songs. So, when something goes wrong in the relationship, he may lose control and react in harmful ways.
Missing Parental Support
One big reason behind this issue is the lack of proper attention from parents. Sadhguru says many children are left alone with the internet, where they can find both helpful and harmful content. The problem is that online content is often created by people who don't truly care about the kids watching it.
Use Technology for Good
Sadhguru ends with a strong message, technology should support human well-being, not harm it. Society needs to guide children better, give them time and attention, and make sure technology helps them grow in a positive way.
