Spiritual aspirants around get ready to go out on a voyage of discovering oneself and enlightenment as Mahashivratri approaches. Spiritual advisor and devoted learner Bhavesh Bhimanathani offers advice on how to achieve inner growth and spiritual fulfillment by keeping the Mahashivratri fast.
Importance of fasting for Mahashivratri:
On March 7th, the rite starts in the late hours with a substantial dinner to prepare the body for the next fast. On the morning of Mahashivratri, followers go to a Shiv temple to make their vrat purpose, or sankalpa. This serious pledge acts as a beacon of light for the duration of the fasting and prayer day.
Ending the fast is a holy tradition in and of itself, representing the pinnacle of one's commitment to discipline. Following a revitalizing shower, worshippers come back to the temple to provide food and drink to the Shivaling as an expression of their thanks. They wait to eat their next meal, which represents spiritual rebirth and nutrition, until after that.
Bhavesh stresses the significance of customizing the vrat to each person's requirements and capacity. Experienced disciples may decide to follow a strict fast without food or liquids and spend the entire night in observation and constant sadhana. For energy maintenance, intermediate practitioners might choose to add fruits in their diet or stick to a liquid diet. It is advised that novices begin with a gentler approach, eliminating grains and choosing instead to eat alkaline soups.
Through genuine dedication, honesty, and submission to Lord Shiva, practitioners can open the door to a transformative meditation that surpasses limitations and reveals the route to ultimate insight.
