In conversation with Riya Pant, founder of Blur India, as she shares insights on beauty, entrepreneurship, and the importance of empowering individuality. With a unique perspective on the beauty industry, Riya opens up about her experiences, lessons learned, and what's next for Blur India.

What sparked your desire to challenge traditional beauty standards and create a more inclusive beauty brand?
Blur India was born after noticing the lack of representation in the industry. Growing up, I saw how brands pushed a single definition of beauty—one that didn't reflect the diversity of Indian skin tones and personalities. I wanted to create a space where people could express themselves freely, without feeling the pressure to fit into conventional beauty standards.
2. Can you share the most significant lesson you've learned as a young entrepreneur in the beauty industry?
Adaptability is everything. The beauty industry moves fast, and consumer preferences change constantly. I've learned that being rigid with ideas can hold you back, but staying open to learning and evolving can take you further than you ever imagined.
3. How do you balance your creative vision with the commercial aspects of running a business?
It's definitely a challenge! Creativity sometimes has to take a back seat as running a profitable business means making numbers-driven decisions. The key is finding a middle ground, staying true to the brand's core values while also ensuring sustainability. I'm lucky to have a team that understands my vision but also keeps me grounded in what works commercially.

4. What advice would you give to aspiring female entrepreneurs in India?
Don't wait for validation. As women, we're often conditioned to seek approval before taking risks, but entrepreneurship is all about trusting yourself. Build a strong support system, but also learn to be your own biggest cheerleader. Don't be afraid to take up space your ideas and voice matter.
5. Your philanthropic efforts, such as "Blur for Paws", are truly inspiring. What drives your passion for giving back?
I've always believed that businesses should stand for something beyond profits. "Blur for Paws" is deeply personal because I've always been an animal lover. The goal is to use Blur's platform to create meaningful change, whether it's helping stray animals or supporting causes that align with our brand values. If you have the ability to make a difference, why wouldn't you?
6. How do you stay ahead of the curve in terms of beauty trends and consumer preferences?
I'm obsessed with consumer behavior and pop culture. I spend hours scrolling through social media, analyzing trends, and understanding what excites people. But at the same time, I believe in intuition sometimes, you have to create a trend instead of just following one.
7. What's been the most surreal moment for you since launching Blur India?
There have been so many! Seeing people genuinely connect with the brand, and receiving messages about how Blur has helped them embrace their unique beauty is priceless. Recently a customer sent us a text saying they have used our newly launched Body oil candle called Safe space for her grandmother & it has helped her with knee pain. It was very very heartwarming.
8. What's next for you and Blur India? Are there any exciting plans or projects in the pipeline?
There's so much in the works! We're expanding into new categories, experimenting with innovative formulas, and, of course, continuing to push the boundaries of beauty. There's also a big surprise coming up that I can't reveal just yet, but let's just say it's something our audience has been asking for. Stay tuned!
