Barkha Bisht exclusively speaks to Jayveer Singh. In this conversation, she opens up about her journey in the industry. She has shared her strong opinion about the term, 'mother's guilt'. She has also called social a 'circus'.
Here are a few edited excerpts of this conversation;
We often hear the term "mother's guilt for working mothers. What do you think about it?
It's very convenient, I don't know, I'm sure some, some man has, you know, found this word, created this word, definitely not a mother, but mother's guilt. I just feel it is something that has, again, we have been conditioned to believe that because a mother is a giver and the mother is supposed to take care of the child, if she doesn't do that, she should feel guilty about it.
And I'm completely, you know, guilty because I have gone through that mother's guilt for a very long time. I have like overworked myself, underslept, done all of that because I felt OK, you know, I'll sleep less, but I'll spend time with my child or I'll do this and I'll spend time with my child.
I don't believe there is anything known as a mother's guilt. If you ask me, we are all doing the best that we can as parents.
And I think it is the equal responsibility of the father because it's not just my child. I think it is the equal responsibility of any father to share the upbringing of a child. I mean, even if you are not there, the excuse cannot be that I'm the breadwinner of the house. That cannot be an excuse. And it's not an excuse for a lot of households because women are also working and earning.
One thing, you know, social media is at its peak these days, but online scrutiny is also very common. What do you have to say about that?
Social media is a circus if you ask me. As long as you can just use it for entertainment, great. But when that entertainment I think starts becoming personal, I think that's when we need to do a check. You know, it's like a self-check. Today it has really become a platform. I think anyone and everyone can come on it and say anything and do anything. I just think that it's it started off as a way of connecting people. It started off as a way of just basic entertainment for people. But like all technology, it has gone completely out of hand. And I'm not so fond of social media. If I could, if my profession was not such that I could stay away from it, I would have stayed away from it.
She has answered several other interesting questions like pay parity, the emergence of OTT, and much more. To watch the entire conversation head to our official YouTube channel of whosthat360.
