It must be an exciting time for her fans as she is now venturing into YouTube, and knowing Nia, we can expect a lot from her channel! We reached out to Nia to ask what inspired her to start the channel and what we can look forward to. In her trademark candid style, Nia shared it all. Read the excerpts:
What inspired you to start your own YouTube channel? Was it something you always wanted, or did it just happen naturally?
Was it something I always wanted? No. This is something I probably never thought of doing. Not that I wanted it. Not that I was interested in it. I'm somebody who believes that it's not okay to overshare about my own life. You know, the blogging thing—it's very strange to me. It was never okay to me personally, except in the last few years, when a lot of people I met, including my friends, started telling me about its importance. During The Laughter Show, Bharti told me the importance of it, so they kept telling me to give it a try. Eventually, you sit down and realize what you're missing out on. So I realized that it's kind of important for the work that I do.
And it's up to me what I want to share and not share, you know, in terms of blogging. So, no, it's not a very natural thing that happened to me. I did it at people's insistence, and I want to see where it goes. I want to explore the content I put out and see where the journey takes me.
What kind of content can your fans expect, and how will it differ from what they see on TV or social media?
I honestly don't know because I started it out of nowhere. I went to Phuket after a very long time and realized, 'What am I doing on this trip?' So, I thought, 'Let's just take a camera and start talking.' I wanted to see where it would take me. I came back with the most amateur vlogs—funny videos and things like that. But then I realized I enjoyed trying it and giving it a shot.I had friends who were up for helping me start my YouTube channel and edit the videos. So, I'm just going with the flow and want to see where it leads.
People are giving me suggestions, and my fans are sending me ideas about what they want to see. They talk a lot about my makeup videos and fashion lifestyle. This is just the beginning of my blogging journey. In the next three months, I think I'll have a clearer idea of where I want to go with this. It's just a pure experiment. I'm not trying to become the most successful YouTuber in the world or anything like that. So, yeah, I'll see where it goes.
Are there any YouTubers you follow or whose content you particularly enjoy?
So, in India, especially, I've seen a surge of YouTubers coming up, and a lot of them are very successful. I've heard of many, like MostlySane, CarryMinati, Flying Beast, and Saurav Joshi. I haven't watched their content as such, but I know they're doing well. Samay Raina and a few others are on the rise right now, and it's interesting. But I don't feel the need to get inspired by their content. Everyone is doing well in their own space. Bhuvan Bam has been very, very successful as a YouTuber, but I believe that's not my space. I'll always remain an actor, and I'll essentially stick to making funny vlogs about my life. But, yeah, I've seen the journey of these YouTubers, and I think they are doing tremendously well. That's why I believe everyone is doing great with their YouTube channels now. Even Bharti's podcast I did—it broke records. So, yeah, people are doing well with their YouTube channels.
We've watched your journey since Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai, and you're killing it in every space. What drives you to keep pushing boundaries?
Yeah, my journey started with Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai. I was very young, not knowing where life would take me. Thank you for saying I'm killing it in every space. Well, earlier, what drove me to push boundaries wasn't necessarily to push boundaries. It was more of a survival tactic. I always believed that I just had to keep working to survive in Mumbai. My aim was just to keep earning so that I could stay in Mumbai. But now, after 10-13 years, I've realized that the journey has become bigger, and I've become something.
Life is beautiful. Now, when I sit back and enjoy my space, and the things I've made, I realize that I want to move forward with a clear direction in my work. I want to do the kind of roles that I can lead and truly shine in as a good actor. So, those are the spaces I want to break into. But my journey wasn't about pushing boundaries—it happened naturally. I just kept going. There was no stopping me. I just wanted to make something out of myself, you know? That was my aim every day.
