Excerpts...
How does it feel to make your debut at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024, and what was your initial reaction when you found out you'd be attending?
It feels amazing. It couldn't have been better, especially since it was a crucial year for India. India won the Best Movie and Best Actress after a really long time. I felt an immense sense of pride when I learned I'd be the youngest Indian Bollywood actress to go to Cannes. It was just unreal if I can put it in one word, when I found out I'd get the chance to represent India on such an international platform.
Your white feathered ensemble at the French Riviera was stunning and your pictures went viral. Can you tell us more about the inspiration behind this look and how you felt wearing it?
It was unreal. My white feathered ensemble at the French Riviera was inspired by Vietnamese designs that are very delicate and graceful. I wanted to wear something made by a Vietnamese designer to represent our film, which will be the first-ever collaboration between India and Vietnam.
That was my motive. I wanted to wear something comfortable for the poster launch of our film. I love the color white, and the French lace used on the jumpsuit, combined with the feathers, made it delicate and elegant. This is what inspired my look.
You were at Cannes to promote your upcoming movie "Love in Vietnam." Can you share a bit about the film and what makes this project special to you?
I'm thrilled to have had the opportunity to launch the poster of our film, Love in Vietnam, at the Bharat Pavilion. It was an extraordinary experience, particularly as I believe I was the youngest to do so.
What made it even more special was the sense of connection felt by everyone present. We were all united in this moment, sharing joy and excitement. I recall the room coming alive with music and dance; we even broke into Bhangra, and it was heartwarming to see everyone joining in. Their enthusiasm for Bollywood music showcased the strong bond between India and Vietnam.
It was a beautiful demonstration of cultural collaboration and exchange, and I'm honored to have been a part of it.
"Love in Vietnam" marks the first movie collaboration between India and Vietnam. How does it feel to be a part of such a historic project?
This upcoming film is also a musical, featuring a compelling love triangle. I'm excited to work alongside Khangan, a renowned Vietnamese actress, and reunite with Shantanu, whose work I've always admired.
The story revolves around sacrifice and love, but I can't reveal much as we're yet to start shooting. "Love in Vietnam" is a pioneering collaboration between India and Vietnam, and I'm honored to be part of it.
Working with acclaimed director Umang Kumar is a privilege, and I'm eager to deliver my best performance in this remarkable project.
Your red-carpet appearance in a navy-blue outfit with a traditional Indian gesture captivated the audience. Can you describe that moment and what it meant to you?
I believe history creates itself. When we achieved that milestone, we felt it deeply. At that moment, we realized how fortunate we were to be making history at the Bharat Pavilion and the Cannes Film Festival.
It wasn't something we planned. Growing up, my parents always taught me to respect the platform I am on and to cherish my passion. As a child, every time I went on stage, I would first touch the stage to show my respect for the platform and my work. This has always been essential to me because my work means everything to me.
They say Karma is important, and for me, it has always been a guiding principle. I never planned it; it's something I've always done. Whether it's any stage or a camera, I have to show grace before I begin. It's just who I am. I'm built that way, and I'm truly glad that people appreciate my respect for the stage. I would show this respect anywhere in the world. I am incredibly grateful for the support from my fans.
You've mentioned how grateful you are for your fans' support. How have your fans influenced your journey and achievements so far?
They have always been there, watching me grow from a little kid to where I am today, and they have always been supportive and full of love. They have celebrated every achievement in my life, whether big or small and have shown immense love for every aspect of it. I'm incredibly grateful and feel lucky to have them. I call them my army, always supporting me.
Knowing that people look up to me and feel inspired or motivated by my actions makes me very glad. I'm thankful for this platform that allows me to spread so much love as well.
When we talk about social media, online scrutiny is widespread—your take on trolls.
As a person, I have seen a lot since a very young age. I joined this industry when I was 8, so it's been a long journey. Personally, I try to avoid negativity, whether it's from trolls or other aspects of my life, and I focus on spreading positivity as much as I can, even though there's less positivity on social media now.
It's not just me handling these challenges. Even when someone posts something lovely, negative comments can still appear. My take on this is to avoid and ignore negativity as much as possible and choose to live happily. You can either live in agony or choose happiness, and I choose to live happily and try to convert negativity into positivity.
Your glowing skin and natural beauty have been admired by many. Can you share some insights into your skincare routine and how you maintain such a radiant look?
Skincare has come into my life only recently. I used to be terrible at it—I didn't sleep properly, eat well, or stay hydrated. I even slept with makeup on and didn't care about my skin at all.
Now, I've started to understand the importance of taking care of my skin and loving my body. It's essential to stay hydrated, eat good food, get proper sleep, and work out. Even if you're not eating perfectly, you should still work out.
I do a lot of skincare now and have tried many things. While not everything worked for me, over time, I've learned what is good for my skin.
Fitness and health seem to be a top priority for you. What are some of your key practices for staying fit and healthy?
Recently, I discovered the importance of taking care of my health. I used to avoid working out and ate junk food, thinking it was okay. Now, I've realized that starting healthy habits is crucial for long-term well-being.
I've begun going to the gym and focusing on my physical health, which has positively impacted my mental health. I feel happier, more cheerful, and energetic in the mornings. This change has helped me focus better on my work and other aspects of my life. Choosing to be healthy has made things easier and inspired me to maintain this positive lifestyle.
After "Love in Vietnam," what can your fans expect from you next? Are there any upcoming projects or goals you're excited about?
Definitely, Luv Ki Arrange Marriage is releasing on June 14th on Zee5. It's an amazing family comedy with a lot of meaningful messages. The film features an incredible team including Raj Chandelier, Sunny Singh, Anu Kapoor, Supriya Pathak, and Rajpal Yadav. I'm very excited and looking forward to the release. I hope everyone loves my character, Ishika. Fingers crossed!
