Frizzy hair and monsoons are closely linked, affecting individuals with low, normal, and high porosity hair alike. However, several strategies can help manage frizz to a certain extent.

Here are exclusive insights shared by beauty creator Susmitha:

Hair Cleansers:

Opting for sulfate-free, hydrating shampoos is crucial during monsoons as they provide essential hydration to the hair, preventing dryness. High porosity hair, which absorbs and loses moisture rapidly, contains gaps and holes in the hair shaft. Shampoos containing ingredients like keratin and hydrolyzed silk protein can help fill these gaps and strengthen the hair, thereby reducing frizz. In contrast, low-porosity hair, which is often thin, benefits from lightweight ingredients to avoid weighing down the hair and preventing product buildup. Shampoos with argan oil, aloe vera, and panthenol are ideal for low-porosity hair, providing moisture without heaviness.

Hair Conditioners and Hair Masks:

All hair types can benefit from using hair conditioners or masks during the monsoon season, as they provide hydration and conditioning that reduce frizz. It is advisable to choose hydrating hair conditioners containing argan oil, jojoba, keratin, silk protein, shea butter, aloe vera etc. Incorporating a deep conditioning hair mask once or twice a week is also beneficial, replenishing lost moisture. High-porosity hair can opt for thick hair masks, while low-porosity hair should choose thin lightweight hair masks, DIY homemade hair masks, such as those made with curd, honey, or aloe vera gel, can also help manage frizz. However, it is best to avoid hair-drying masks like henna or methi mixture, as they can dry out the hair shafts, leading to unhealthy, frizzy hair. Instead mix these with moisturising ingredients yogurt, coconut oil, olive oil, aloe vera gel, and apply.

Leave-In Conditioners and Hair Serums:

Leave-in conditioning creams are ideal for normal to high porosity hair, as they help tame frizz and make the hair look conditioned and shiny. These products are particularly beneficial for high-porosity hair during the monsoon. Conversely, low porosity hair may face issues with weighing down, reduced volume, and greasy appearance due to product buildup. For this hair type, a very lightweight hair oil or serum applied from mid-lengths to the ends can be beneficial. Hair serums containing ingredients like argan oil and jojoba oil are excellent for controlling frizz. There are also water-resistant hair sprays or anti-humidity hair sprays that help a lot during monsoons !!

Microfiber Towel:

After washing, using a soft microfiber cloth or hair cap to dry your hair gently is recommended. Microfiber cloth caps, easily found on Amazon, are ideal for hair drying. Avoid rubbing the hair with a towel, as this creates static and increases frizz.

Hair drying:

During the monsoon, air drying my hair has always resulted in frizz. To avoid this, I prefer using a blow dryer, setting the speed and heat to the lowest levels, and directing it along the length of my hair.

Heat Styling:

As a beauty content creator, maintaining the best appearance for my hair during shoots is important, which often involves regular heat styling. However, the combination of humidity and heat can exacerbate frizz, making hair look unhealthy. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid heat styling, especially with hot blow brushes, to prevent hair damage and frizz.

By following these tips and selecting the right products, managing frizzy hair during the monsoon season becomes more manageable, ensuring healthier and more attractive hair.
