In an exclusive conversation with whosthat360, Sonal Kaushal shares a glimpse of her Ganpati festivities. She opens up about making organic Ganpati and how her faith in Ganpati has grown over the years.

Here are a few edited excerpts of this conversation;

What makes this Ganpati celebration particularly special for you?

Ganpati Festival has a very different vibe in Mumbai. I was born and brought up in Delhi. Being a Delhiite, I was unaware of the craze of Ganpati Festival in Mumbai. It was in 2013, when I first visited Mumbai, coincidentally during Ganpati Festival. The grandeur, huge idols going for Visarjan, the craze amongst people, the dance, the colors, the vibe—everything made me fall in love with the festival and the city! We remember Bappa before starting a new thing and worship him. I was about to start a new life in Mumbai and later on, I realized, my visit to Mumbai during Ganesh Chaturthi back in 2013 was a signal of Bappa blessing me for the new life.

The only thing that shocked me during that visit was the condition of the idols after they were immersed in water. It was my first ever visit to Jiju beach and I didn't have words to describe what I saw that day.

How has your connection with Ganpati evolved over the years, and what significance does it hold in your life today?

6 years ago, when it was the first time that Ganpati bappa was going to bless our home too, I decided to make an experience-friendly Bappa at home. Since that day, I have made a small, cute bappa with wheat flour at our home every year.

What is your favorite aspect of the Ganpati festival, and how do you like to celebrate it?

Since we don't really know the proper rituals of the festival, we do our own little prayer every year during Ganpati festival. We enjoy the festivities, sing, dance, eat, enjoy, and celebrate the festival with friends and family. We hope Bappa helps everyone achieve good health and happiness.

Are there any family traditions or rituals that you follow during Ganpati, and what's the story behind them?

Since that day, I have made a small, cute bappa with wheat flour at our home every year. We don't follow the traditional rituals precisely, but we do our own little prayer and celebration. Ganpati Bappa Morya!
