How would you describe your work journey so far?

My journey as a young interior designer has been no different. From the thrills of getting my first qualification to the open-eyed, wide-mouthed moments of being a new starter. I have captured the key takeaways of my journey so far in building my own brand Utkarsh Vastukaran. The designing team at Utkarsh is full of seasoned professionals and new starters in the industry, like myself, looking to hit the ground running and jump-start their careers. The combination of experience and youth creates a welcoming environment in which you are free to be yourself and be empowered with a voice in the organization. It was comforting to realize that it is okay to make mistakes, after all, everyone makes them. Along the way you will fail, but with an eagerness to learn quickly, you will get up and continue to achieve your target. We are encouraged to learn from our mistakes to accelerate our learning process. Working in this sort of environment gives you the ability to produce work where you are continually improving – building a mindset that your work can evolve. Learning is part of life, and life at Utkarsh Vastukaran is fast-paced, exciting, and different every day. The wealth of experience within the design team enables you to ask for advice, which encourages your personal growth to become the best version of yourself. I have navigated through the early stages to become an interior designer which means I'll learn something new every day. My journey as an interior designer has only just begun and I am fortunate to have started it with Utkarsh Vastukaran Design Studio.

What was the achievement you would like to highlight in terms of your experience?

Challenges are working to align clients' design expectations with their budgets, particularly in this current environment of skyrocketing construction costs. I have found being an interior designer an extremely satisfying career. The best parts of my job are all aspects of the design process—from the conceptual phase through construction drawings. There's the satisfaction of working with a team to design and document the project. There's the joy of working with the trades to get the project built according to the design. And then there's the delight of using or living in the structure. If it's well-designed and well-built, as you move through the space, the project will be a continual design. The best things that I have achieved during my designing practice Are learning more innovations and a good name and recognition from my clients.

As we know you have worked overseas on projects. Would you like to tell us something?

As the world becomes more and more international, having international experience is becoming increasingly valued. As well as being both professionally and personally rewarding, it is also a key edge over your competition. Working in a foreign country looks very impressive on the portfolio and will help to stand out in the competitive Market.  It will be able to draw on the experiences that you have had abroad and impress the clients with the unique skill set that you have gained. Probably the best decision I ever made was to work in Italy & London. I spent an Erasmus time here for almost more than a year or two and I always felt a need to come back since leaving. I would strongly recommend working abroad to any young person, it is a great way to improve your profile and gain skills that you will have for life.

Tell us some latest design concepts that are trending for home interior styling.

Multi-Purpose Interiors: As a new way of living has become in trend, so have rooms that can be used for more than one purpose, and this is now the main idea behind the modern home. The contemporary home has changed from what it used to be and is now a place to live, work, and hang out with friends. For instance, the rooms are frequently furnished with a mix of fixtures and furniture that makes them versatile, such as a bookshelf in the living room, or a bedroom outfitted with high-tech projection equipment that transforms it into a home theatre.

Wallpaper With Bold Patterns and Trending Colour shades: Wall paint and textures, wallpaper, the latest home trend, and the perfect stickers like wall tattoos we can use it like a sticker that clings to the wall. You can have a new color or bold pattern as often as you want without putting much work into it. You get to explore wild designs and brash colors that you can remove whenever you get tired of them. you get to explore wild designs and brash colors that you can remove whenever you get tired of them.

Minimalistic: Reviving beloved old fashions is considered a favorite in interior design. And as people move away from minimalism in their homes, you will see more styles like Art Deco that include beautiful, ornate details. For instance, adding a few curved pieces of furniture or mirrored pieces with an Art Deco influence to a space with classic furniture and other traditional furnishings gives visual interest and a distinctive feel to your decor. Also, upholstery furniture, and textiles with contrasting color palettes is considered an Art Deco design.

Straight Lines: Curves and smooth edges give a comfortable and casual vibe to a home. These organic, attractive shapes are replacing boxy edges and clear lines that were previously staples in the latest interior design trends. Puffy sofas and comfy chairs are defining the trends, as well as circular furniture, mirrors, artwork, etc.

Natural Elements: Decor elements made either from real or faux natural materials are in high demand, as they add a natural and authentic look to your space. Designers are embracing recycled and handcrafted goods not just for their aesthetic appeal, but also as a sign of their eco-friendly design approach. The latest trends incorporate natural wood everywhere, from flooring, to countertops, to accent decor, to cabinets. Stones like marble, granite, and pebble – as well as materials resembling these stones – also address this current interior design trend.

Smart Technology: current trends encourage sleek electronics that easily accommodate the new wave of home assistant technologies. Technology and interior design have historically influenced one another, so of course, the latest interior design trends will reflect progressions in technology.

Luxurious vibe: Luxurious interior design is all about the little things in life and draws inspiration from the elegance and finesse of the royal Regency era. It incorporates design cues globally and has reintroduced ornamentation into homes in a contemporary fashion. The right opulent space is created with big sofas, soft cushions of velvet, and well-built chairs covered in leather. Luxurious materials like crystal chandeliers, marble countertops, and dark wood furniture add a wow factor to the space. Furthermore, warm, rich lighting and metallic accents give the space a unique look, making it a great place to hang out with family and friends

How important is Vastu when it comes to interior design? Please tell our audience some important things to keep in mind.

Vastu or Vastu Shastra is an ancient building practice that is referred to even in the Vedas and is typically based on five core components – space, air, fire, water & earth. The idea is to use these five elements while building a house or a commercial space via an optimized ( Vastu ) sectional layout. The Gurus of Vastu often use terms such as “Negative Energies”, “Prosperity” and “Harmony”. The reason is that Vastu allows interior designers to balance these five basic elements. Once achieved, it improves health, wealth, and relationship quotients. Vastu interior design is neither an art of decorating spaces nor does it penalize when not followed. It is a practical rulebook for laying out various architectural elements such as doors, windows, kitchen/pantry, bedroom, and bathroom. Additionally, it also offers solutions in case the said elements are not positioned as per Vastu's recommended directions. The northeast corner of a house is where you want to put your living room because of the peaceful and optimistic vibe it exudes. the front door leads directly into the living room. Health, money, renown, and honor are all brought to those who construct it in the north or east. It's best to have your windows facing either north or east. Walls should be painted in lighter tones to make the space feel cozier. best places to put furniture are the south and west sides of the room. The southeast corner of a room is the best spot for electrical appliances, whereas the west is the best spot for hanging big chandeliers. Plants are an integral part of any home's decor and ambiance. Because of their auspicious qualities, tulsi and neem plants should be kept in every home.

How biophilic and sustainable products are actually modifying our environment?

Biophilic design is a methodology for designing buildings and landscapes that nurtures the relationship between people and nature by introducing various natural features into the built environment. Biophilic design is an innovative approach that emphasizes the importance of maintenance, enhancement, and restoration of useful experience in the use of nature in the built environment. Focused on Biophilic planning and designing which will increase the environmental attitude and knowledge of citizens. Enhanced environmental attitude and knowledge lead to environmental behavior modification and green lifestyle of citizens and thus environmental sustainability. The purpose of biophilic design is to create spaces that deliver benefits for both human health and the environment by nurturing people's innate affinity for nature and creating harmony within the built environment.

What inspires your creativity?

Creativity is like a muscle. It requires regular working out to make those all-important gains. Simply sitting back and waiting for inspiration to strike is a recipe for frustration and failure. If I am stuck in a creative rut or simply looking for tips to boost my creativity and inspiration my best time is to go to Himachal and work on concepts between the hills. The highest peak area is the best place to work. the silence between nature allows the positive energy to flow between your mind and the body. Pen and paper are my best friends. If I am struggling to concentrate, doodling will likely activate my brain's “unfocus” circuits, and give me “focus” circuits a break, allowing me to ultimately think more creatively.  The beauty of the natural world, from landscapes to the intricacies of flora and fauna, can stimulate everyone's creative thinking. Rest doesn't always have to mean doing nothing or napping, either. It can look like reading a book, cooking, or tending to your garden—anything that makes you feel peaceful. My stress buster is cooking and I am good at that.

In your career journey, what failures or setbacks have you faced?

No one likes or wants to fail but to succeed, failure is sometimes part of the process. For some people, it looks like winning comes easily. However, everyone is confronted with their own challenges, setbacks, and failures. Instead of feeling bad about yourself when things go awry, try to reframe your thoughts. Think of all the positive things you have learned along your career journey rather than ruminating on what didn't work. Instead of dwelling on your setback, allow the feelings to fuel your energy to hyperfocus on the next, new and exciting opportunity. I have had lot of failures and setbacks in my life and after experiencing everything I restarted again with my own brand Utkarsh Vastukaran to make a completely new identity between my clients and everyone to showcase a real and new way of design and inspiration and working with speech less style of designing.

Which project do you like to work on more - residential or commercial and why?

For me, all projects are the same as I consider designing as a passion whether it's residential or commercial, when it comes to designing your creativity speaks more when you thoughtfully design any work that comes. Your identity and your brand are established as per your conceptualization and creation.

Would you like to highlight any big projects (celebrity or any other)?

As a designer have tried my hands and worked with a lot of celebrities and hotelier brands but would highlight, that my first project was in northern India of boutique hotel project hotel Combermere and Hotel Marina in Shimla which was offered by Mr Sanjay Thakur the gem of a person and I thank him for his trust and respect which made us achieve an iconic name in the hotel industry and also made a brand value in Himachal Pradesh, also apart from that the best project which I have designed is hotel noor mahal palace and the luxurious fine dine Indian restaurant named colonel saab in London. The palace noor mahal has always been my dream project and Colonel Saab is like a new baby that will be growing as a feather spreading its wings in London with more flying opportunities and creating a big brand that connects a love letter from India to London and it's a dream project to spread the love from India. And I am really grateful to Mr Manbeer Choudhary along with Mrs. Binny Choudhary & Kr Roop Pratap Choudhary for serving and having a bond for more than 25 years and trusting me to serve you as an Indian designer for your most iconic project and now a brand colonel saab which is a dream project achieve an incredible milestone in my portfolio.
So finally a text from the designer and founder of Utkarsh vastukaran is-

Designed are made to create a beautiful and luxurious space with a feel like heaven.
