Exclusive! I Admit that I Sometimes Feel Bothered by Mean Comments & Abuses: BC Aunty, aka Snehil Dixit Mehra

I saw a video of Snehil Mehra Dixit, also known as BC Aunty, on Facebook. She was discussing with 'Badi Bhabhi' the gifts that her 'Badi Bhabhi' had planned to give to the people at a wedding, and I couldn't help but enjoy it. The video was so relatable that I had to find out more about her, leading to this interview. It would be no exaggeration to say that if you are having a bad day, her Instagram should be your go-to destination to cheer up your mood. She flawlessly embodies every character, be it in web series or on social media. In an exclusive conversation, we connected with her to learn more. Here are some edited excerpts from our chat.

Can you tell us about your journey and how you became BC Aunty on social media?

It was all by chance. I was working as a creative director on the web series 'Apharan', my first venture in the world of web series. During the production, we faced a challenge in finding an actor for a small but crucial role of a cute lady receiving an abusive call. We couldn't find someone for it, so I decided to play that part myself and my team and director also encouraged me. Little did I know that this mere 17-second part would become a sensation. It was all over memes and on the internet. The audience gave me the name of bcaunty. Building upon this unexpected success, I created content, including movie reviews and relevant videos. During the lockdown, my page gained tremendous popularity, with several videos going viral and in season 2 of 'Apharan'. I was cast because of my popularity as an influencer. It was never intentional, but like a path, I think, shown by God for the role, and I took it.

What motivated you to create funny videos to entertain your followers? How do you come up with your content ideas?

It mostly comes from things around me, whether the latest general or entertainment news. I specialize in observational comedy, drawing inspiration from legendary comedian Raju Shrivastav Ji. Growing up, I keenly watched his clean and comical videos, greatly influencing my comedic style. Observation is key for me—I observe people, their quirks, and mannerisms and then create characters based on those observations. Many of the videos on my page feature these unique characters. One of my most viral videos was 'Names of the students from 2025', an idea suggested by my husband. He encouraged me to stop reviewing content and explore new avenues. This led to the creation of the 'Class of states', 'Class of heroes', and many more videos with catchy titles that resonated with viewers and gained widespread popularity.

How do you manage your YouTube channel and engage with your audience? What strategies do you use to grow your subscriber base?

On my YouTube channel, I started posting the same content that I share on my Instagram channel. To my surprise, these videos began trending and generating income through monetization. For the longest time, I had no idea that YouTube could be a source of revenue. During a panel discussion, I had the opportunity to meet influencers like Niharika and Ruhi Dosani, who emphasized the importance of monetizing videos, and Yash Raj Mukhate, also one of the top YouTubers who inspired me. Although I don't invest much time in YouTube due to my job and caring for my child, the little content I create resonates with my subscribers. I gave it a boost, and thanks to the organic appeal of my content, it has gained popularity.

Could you share your experiences raising your voice against discrimination in award shows based on looks and celebrity status? How did you navigate the challenges in addressing this issue? For example, the recent controversy that happened.

I would not describe it as a controversy. My role as Gilauri in 'Apharan' Season 2, the character gained immense popularity and garnered many views, leading to a nomination for the Popular Supporting Actress award. However, I was disappointed when I realized I was not invited to the award ceremony despite being a nominee. It hurt because I was looking forward to the event and the opportunity to meet fellow actors. This incident prompted me to write a post expressing my feelings. I received tremendous support from other actors and celebrities, including Gajraj Rao and Uorfi Javed, which meant a lot to me. It is rare for people to voice such issues, but the love and support I received from the actors and the audience hold more significance than any award. Their encouragement brings me immense gratification.

What challenges have you faced in the entertainment industry, and how have you overcome them? How do you stay motivated and resilient in the face of obstacles?

Not many are aware that I have an engineering background, but I chose a different career path and ventured into the media industry. I have had a fulfilling journey with 16 years of experience in television and OTT. Initially, I worked behind the camera, but when I transitioned into being an influencer, the spotlight found me. My biggest challenge is staying relevant in an industry where numerous influencers create unique and engaging content. Social media provides a platform for creators, but continuous content generation remains a significant challenge for me. Balancing different projects, including working with esteemed individuals like Ekta Kapoor and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, has been a blessing. I am grateful to be here, living my passion.

Can you share some insights into the creative process behind your work? How do you approach writing and directing, and what elements are important to you?

My insight on writing and directing is that, first and foremost, writing is a process of continuous rewriting. It requires the willingness to revise and rewrite one's work repeatedly to achieve its best form. Regarding direction, it is something new I have experienced, a new feather in my cap. Still, as a writer, I have always visualized things, imagining the scenes and characters in my mind. Therefore, I feels like a direction extension of my writing.

What are your future goals and aspirations in the entertainment industry? Are there any specific projects or collaborations you would like to pursue?

I aspire to do good work and tell stories. Eventually, I want to write and direct something of my own. My ultimate aspiration is to create and share impactful narratives that resonate with audiences and leave a lasting impression.

How do you handle criticism or negative feedback on social media platforms? What strategies do you use to maintain a positive online presence and engage with your audience constructively?

Negative criticism and trolling are an inevitable part of being in the public eye, and it was my conscious decision to put myself on the digital platform and be exposed to the public eye. While there will always be individuals who may not appreciate my work or content, I understand that it is natural to have differing opinions. Though I sometimes feel bothered by mean comments and abuses, I am immensely grateful for the overwhelming support and love I receive from the vast majority of people who enjoy my content. I value feedback greatly, and if there are constructive criticisms, I take them seriously. In instances where I have received feedback pointing out posts that were deemed unfunny, offensive, or hurtful to others, I have taken them down those posts. I have no shame in accepting that sometimes content creators get confused about delivering the content the viewers like to watch or expect, and if there is feedback, one must apply it to their channel and move forward.
