Dolly Singh Opens Up About Her Instagram Series 'Best First Date Season 2': Exclusive

Dolly Singh has recently opened up about her Instagram series, 'Best First Date Season 2'. She exclusively discussed her thought process behind the series and much more.

Here are a few edited excerpts of this conversation...

What do you think sets Best First Date Season 2 apart from other Instagram series and what makes it unique? 

I think it's pretty unique because when I did the COVID love story back in the pandemic I don't remember seeing anybody else doing that. I'm definitely someone who tried it for the first time on a platform like Instagram and even today I haven't seen much of these series sort of things going around. I think because it's a big challenge, it's a big risk to take.
 
Like I said given the attention span that we have these days it can be daunting for someone to take that up but since I had already experimented with it I did you know now I think we've done it four times. I haven't seen many people do it. I've seen some people do even smaller series like a two-episode or a three episode or they will be doing their regular content but in parts like if you're doing a get ready with me they'll do their makeup first and they like to come back for part two and see the full outfit.
 
So, they do that, but I have not really seen someone doing fictional content and a full show with a title and all of that packaging and making episodes. So yeah, I don't think I've seen much of that going around and I think what sets us apart is definitely the first-move advantage and also the story. I think the story is fun, it's engaging, it's something you've seen before but at the same time it does carry elements that are fresh and new and it's happening on your phone.

Can you share with us your favorite episode or moment from Best Worst 8 season 2 and why it's special to you? 

I think my favorite moment is actually from before we shot it while I was writing it and almost finishing it, I had this idea because I'm doing it on a platform. I'm doing it on Instagram. I also wanted to Kind of keep those elements in mind, you know, what does Instagram bring to the table? What kind of features can we use? What do we take in? and I got this idea that if what if we do two endings and we make people choose the end and Let them decide what happens next with the story And we used Instagram poll to kind of make that happen So using the platform's feature Also roping in the audiences and really listening to them as to what they want and I knew it'll be a fun thing because I knew that people if they are invested in the story they will start fighting about it and they will have their own debates and discussions about it and That's what happened that's definitely my favorite moment because I don't think that has ever happened before of course on Netflix and These bigger OTT platforms there have been 

these interactive shows and movies where you can choose to decide what happens next but on Instagram, I think this is the first time that something like that was tried So we literally gave the end in people's hands and we were like, okay you tell us what do you who do you want to see as the last man standing and they actually decided.

As I expected they were fighting in the comments with each other about who they think You know deserves to win and I think that was pretty unique also obviously there was more on our plate because we had to do we had to shoot two endings two separate endings alternate endings and Then decide and then see what people choose and then you know upload that ending I think that was overall such a fun process for me because it was just so new And even as a creator even I had never done something like that before so I was very excited to see how people take it and how they respond to it and They really enjoyed that.

I think I did ask on my story if they liked being part of that process And what they think and most of them replied saying they loved being part of the process and they loved Having to decide because they've never gotten that chance before and they felt like the protagonist They could put us put themselves in there in her shoes and really think about it. People told me that they made a pros and cons list of their own and they roped in their friends and recited the story to them So they could collectively decide who deserved to win. I think that definitely is my favorite moment My favorite episode is the Christmas episode the Christmas Miracle just overall.
 
I think it's a beautiful episode. It has all the Christmas festive energy. We're wearing ugly Christmas sweaters. So. I think overall that that episode is my favorite.
