Digital creator Ashish Chanchlani speaks to Jayveer Singh exclusively. In this conversation, he opens up about his content creation journey. He discusses his much-talked-about fitness transformation and drops major hints about his forthcoming projects.
Here are a few edited excerpts of this delightful conversation:
How do you look back at your content creation journey?
It's almost a decade since I am here. I started in June 2014 and times have changed man. Back then, the term 'influencer' didn't even exist, and now there's an entire ecosystem around it. The best part is when content creators tell me, 'We started because of you.' That means more to me than any fame—it's the greatest gift to inspire others to create.
With so many creators out there, what does it take to stay relevant?
The most important thing is understanding every generation's content consumption. You need to understand what's happening around you. For example, Gen Z loves dark comedy, and I predicted this in 2018. It's important to keep evolving because just because something worked four years ago doesn't mean it will work now.
Social media is all about numbers and traction. Do you feel pressure to stay in the race of the numbers game?
I'll tell you honestly, I don't believe in that. I've seen creators with 1/10th of my following bring better engagement. Ultimately, it's originality that works. If everyone tries to copy someone else, it won't last. Originality will always win; that's what will make you mainstream in the end.
How do you come up with ideas for your daily videos and reels? What inspires you to create humorous content?
It comes from anywhere as it is relatable and everyday content. So, I'm very observant and find little details in everything in life and make an exaggerated situation around it and content appear.
When you're low you see something that makes you laugh, and that is my biggest inspiration. Because making someone laugh is the greatest thing you can do. Also, watching my old content inspires me to create humorous content.
Which one is your favourite character that you have played and why?
I really loved playing my dad's character, because my dad doesn't really have that personality, it is a combination of my Chacha, mama, uncles, and only a little inspired by my dad which I really enjoy.
Certain actors have mentioned that they have lost work opportunities to influencers. Your take on that?
I am sure that must be happening to them, but ultimately talent prevails, because you want actors to perform, and with followers, you can get a chance but you need talent to shine. I will try my best if I get any opportunity, it will never be by snatching someone's work.
