Saransh Goila shares a heartfelt and divine recipe for Langar-style dal to honor the spirit of Gurupurab. Inspired by the warmth and love found in every Gurudwara meal, this dal brings the essence of community cooking into your home.

Ingredients:

For the Dal:

  • 1/2 cup Urad Chilka dal (washed and soaked)
  • 1/4 cup Chana dal (washed and soaked)
  • 1/2 inch Ginger (crushed)
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as required

For the Tadka:

  • 1 1/2 tbsp Ghee
  • 1 tsp Jeera
  • 1 tbsp Garlic (chopped)
  • 2 Onions (diced)
  • 1 Green chili (chopped)
  • 1/2 inch Ginger (chopped)
  • 3 Tomatoes (diced)
  • 1 tsp Red chili powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • Handful of fresh coriander (chopped)
  • Extra ghee for topping

Method:

  • Pressure Cook the Dal: Combine the dals with ginger, turmeric, salt, and water. Pressure cook for 3 whistles.
  • Prepare the Tadka: Heat ghee in a pan. Add jeera, followed by garlic, and sauté until translucent.
  • Cook the Masala: Add onions, salt, green chili, and ginger. Sauté well. Add tomatoes, red chili powder, and coriander powder. Cook until soft.
  • Combine: Add the cooked dal to the masala. Mash slightly, cover, and cook for 10 minutes.
  • Finish: Garnish with fresh coriander and a dollop of ghee.

Serve hot and enjoy the comforting flavors of Langar-style dal. A perfect way to celebrate Gurupurab at home!
