Bread is a common food we use for breakfast, in our sandwiches, or make various dishes from its crumbs. In an enlightening Instagram reel, Revant Himatsingka, known as 'foodpharmer,' explains the truth behind the different types of bread commonly consumed in India. He highlights the misconceptions surrounding white, brown, multi-grain, and whole-wheat bread.
Types of bread:
Revant reveals that white bread is filled with maida, a refined wheat flour that lacks essential nutrients. While brown bread may seem like a healthier option due to its colour, it often contains caramel colour for aesthetics, not nutritional value. Similarly, wholewheat bread is not entirely made from wholewheat but includes a significant proportion of maida.
Multi-grain bread, on the other hand, doesn't necessarily equate to being healthier, as it only means it contains multiple types of grains, not necessarily whole grains. He warns against the deceptive marketing tactics used by some bread brands.
Three solution:
To guide viewers towards healthier choices, Revant offers three solutions: baking your own bread from scratch, opting for traditional Indian roti instead of commercial bread, and carefully reading the ingredients list before purchasing bread. He recommends avoiding bread that contains maida, palm oil, and preservatives.
Revant mentions 'Baker's Dozen' among the bread brands as a relatively better option, though not ideal. Revant passionately emphasizes the significance of choosing the right bread, as it has become a common food in Indian households, and a small decision can significantly impact overall health.
With the large number of bread slices consumed daily, educating consumers about making healthier choices is crucial to support their well-being. Revant aims to empower his audience with essential information to make informed diet choices.
