Aruna Vijay is popular food influencer. She gained immense popularity with her stint in culinary reality 'MasterChef'. She has recently shared an interesting recipe of Gawarphali Dhokli. Talking about the recipe, she wrote, "Dal Dhokli is a comfort food, This is my mom's recipe and one of my absolute favs. I am not a big fan of cluster beans; it tastes so amazing in Dhokli. But what surprises me is that even though it doesn't have any dal in it still tastes so so good and that tanginess from the Tamarind is just wow.

The recipe of the Dal Dhokli:

Dough -

  • Atta - 1 cup
  • Jeera - 1 tsp
  • Ghee - 1 tbsp
  • Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Haldi - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Water

Tempering -

  • Ghee- 2 tbsp
  • Jeera - 1 tsp
  • Green chilli - 1
  • Curry leaves
  • String beans - 1 cup
  • Haldi - 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilli powder - 1 1/2 tsp
  • Dhaniya powder - 1 tsp
  • Salt
  • Water - 4 cups
  • Thin tamarind water - 1/2 cup

The Procedure:

  • Knead all the ingredients to form a stiff dough
  • Pinch of small portion and shape it
  • In a pan add ghee, jeera, chilli and chopped string beans and sauté it. Then goes all the spices
  • Once it's a little soft, add water and let it come to a rolling boil.
  • Then add in the Dhokli, cook on slow flame till the dhokli's are completely cooked.
  • Finally add tamarind water and cook for few more mins.
  • Finish with ghee & coriander leaves
