When it comes to choosing between ice cream and frozen desserts, many people wonder which one is healthier. Fitness coach Ralston D'Souza gives us some clarity on this topic.
Ice Cream vs Frozen Desserts: What is the Difference?
Ice cream is created from milk or milk solids, which gives it the creamy texture that we all enjoy. Frozen desserts, on the other hand, resemble ice cream but are prepared from vegetable oils such as palm. These oils are used instead of milk to get a comparable mouthfeel. Even as they might seem the same, there is a difference in the type of ingredients.
Frozen Desserts Calories and Trans Fats
Many people believe ice cream to be a healthier option since it contains milk; actually, it is not always so because some frozen desserts have fewer calories and even less trans fat than certain ice creams, making them the better choice when calorie counting or trying not to consume those bad fats.
Is Palm Oil Bad for You?
Palm oil has a bad reputation because it is used in lots of processed foods. However, palm oil is actually a stable oil and one of the cheapest to produce. This is why it can often be found in frozen desserts. It isn't automatically unhealthy because it is in there. All ingredients can be safe in modest amounts.
Moderation is Key
Whether your taste is for frozen desserts or ice cream, both are highly processed foods. So that means they are not the best choice in making part of a healthy diet if you eat them in large amounts regularly. Honestly, no one eats those foods for nutritional value—they are all about the taste. So therefore, the most desirable thing is, to enjoy it in moderation and to choose whichever is your favorite.
