- Optimize your sleep environment
Do you ever find yourself unable to fall asleep no matter how tired you are? You're not alone. Many people struggle with this problem and I'm sure you have heard it as well from your friend. But fear not, because Dr. Siddhant Bhargava, a health expert, has some simple tips to help you fall asleep faster.
How to Fall Asleep Faster?
Reprogram your sleep environment:
One common reason why it takes so long for us to fall asleep is what Dr. Bhargava calls "learned behavior." Have you realized that you feel sleepy on the sofa, hall, armchair, and everywhere, but the moment you go to your bed and try to sleep, it disappears! Because over the time, our bodies have learned that the bed is not just for sleeping. Sometimes we use it for working, scrolling through our phones, or even eating. This confuses our brains and makes it harder to relax when it's time to sleep. So, first, do everything away from the bed. Use the bed only to sleep.
Relax your muscles:
Once you're in bed, it's time to relax your muscles. Start by relaxing the muscles of your feet so it feels like they are sinking into the mattress. Then relax your calf muscles, and then thighs. Keep relaxing each muscle group intentionally so that your entire body feels like it's melting into the bed.
Calm your mind:
Next, Dr. Bhargava suggests using visualization techniques to calm your mind. Imagine mentally that you are in a peaceful place, such as deep underwater or in outer space. Imagine that you are breathing easily in this peaceful environment, and let your mind wander there. This mental imagery can help distract you from any thoughts or worries, making it easier to fall asleep.
According to Dr. Bhargava, the average human should be able to fall asleep in 7 minutes. If it takes you longer than that, you have to do something about it. So, the next time you're struggling to sleep, remember these tips from Dr. Bhargava. By keeping these few things in mind, you will be falling into a peaceful sleep in no time.
