- Young Skin Does'nt Need Exfoliation
- Over-Exfoliation = Skin Problems
- Exfoliate Smartly After 25
Exfoliation may seem like the ultimate skincare hack but starting it too early can do more harm than good! Dr. Rashmi Shetty, a prominent skincare expert, warns against unnecessary exfoliation, especially for young skin.
What Happens When You Exfoliate Too Early?
- Damages the skin barrier – leading to intense irritation and dryness
- Makes skin rough – instead of smooth and glowing one
- Causes redness & pigmentation – increasing the sensitivity
- Weakens natural protection – leaving the skin much more vulnerable
When Should You Start Exfoliating?
Dr. Shetty advises that young skin (under 25) does NOT need any exfoliation! If your skin is naturally shedding dead cells and retaining its moisture well, extra scrubbing is unnecessary.
However, after age 25, if your skin starts looking very dull, rough, or uneven, gentle exfoliation 1-2 times a week can surely help to boost cell turnover and improve product absorption.
The Right Way to Exfoliate
- Start only when needed (post-25 or if using actives like retinol)
- Limit to 1-2 times a week – over-exfoliation leads to intense damage
- Use gentle exfoliators suited for your skin type
- Focus on hydration to maintain your skin health
Dr. Rashmi Shetty's Final Verdict: Always listen to your skin! If it's glowing, you don't need exfoliation. Stick to a perfect diet, hydration, and a simple skincare routine for happy and healthy skin.
