Botox, fillers, lip injections, and whatnot, we often see our favorite influencers promoting the use of these artificial skin enhancers.  They talk about their benefits and how they make them look the best. But the question is, do these only have benefits? No side effects have ever been discussed by these influencers. Why so?

Uorfi Javed has been very vocal about the use of Botox and fillers. Nia Sharma has also recommended the use of lip injections recently. But the question remains the same, what about the cons? To get the answer to all our queries we have connected with influencer and certified cosmetologist Tanya Singh, who has exclusively shared her insights.

Here are an edited excepts from this conversation;

Major Side Effects :

  1. Chances of infection- if these are not done in hygienic clinics, there are chances that the process could lead to infection making the affected part even worse than before
  2. Allergies- Although before injecting, a patch test is always performed to make sure that the body doesn't react to it, there are still changes of allergies which include swelling, itching, and difficulty in breathing
  3. Tissue damage- Necrosis -which is called the death of cells or tissues, although rare can be caused by pressure on the arteries and blockage of the vessels

Influencer Promotion And Disclaimer:

In India, the concept of Botox, fillers, and lip injections is not yet prevalent in the influencer community compared to western.
The slope is gradually changing though.

Influencer promotion of cosmetic procedures without disclaimers can be misleading because everybody is different. While individuals need to have access to information about procedures, it's also crucial to understand the risks and potential side effects

Minimizing Side Effects:

If you are considering fillers, Botox or lip injections make sure you keep this in mind

Choose a qualified doctor

Always discuss your medical history - any allergies or medications you are taking
Don't overdo it - your body is gifted, so don't get carried away with the unrealistic beauty that the media is promoting. Stay as natural as possible.
Post-procedure care - Aftercare is very important, such as avoiding heat/sunlight or a few days or so according to the procedures you are getting done

Healthier Alternatives:

      1. Skincare - to reduce the signs of aging, start anti-aging Skincare in your twenties.
      2. Lifestyle changes - a healthy diet, no alcohol or smoking, and adequate sleep can help to promote overall health and well-being
      3. Noninvasive treatments - prefer treatments like chemical peels, and microdermabrasion to enhance the beauty and appearance of skin.
