Neha Nagar who is a financial advisor and influencer recently shared a thought-provoking reel highlighting the dangers posed by betting apps and shed light on the celebrities and influencers who endorse them. In her reel, she brings attention to the fact that betting is illegal in India under the Public Gambling Act of 1867.
Despite the Indian government's recent steps to ban several Chinese apps, including those related to betting, many Chinese companies continue to operate under Indian names and illegally promote their betting apps through celebrity endorsements. This alarming trend raises questions about the responsibility of these celebrities, who hold significant influence over the public, in endorsing illegal activities.
It is also disheartening that certain Chinese companies misuse India's laws and regulations, engaging in illegal activities within the country.
She highlights how through these apps, China can access India's data which serves as a threat in the longer run if there's a possibility that these nations start a war with each other, it will be disadvantageous for our country.
One distressing example involves a Chinese company that allegedly defrauded people of INR 1,000 crore and illicitly transferred the funds to China through illegal channels. Despite the government's domain ban, the company rebranded itself under a new domain name, continuing its operations undeterred. The situation is further complicated by the fact that reporting these apps to authorities often yields no action, as the apps are already banned.
This highlights the urgent need for stricter enforcement of laws and regulations, as well as more effective methods for monitoring and detecting illegal activities. The government must adopt a proactive approach to address this issue, and the public must be more aware of the dangers associated with illegal betting apps.
Neha's reel stresses how we can work towards creating a safer environment by discouraging illegal activities and advocating for more stringent measures against such practices.
