Popular fashion influencer and very talented, Nagma Mirajkar speaks to whosthat360 about her content creation journey, offering a glimpse into her life beyond social media. In an interesting conversation, she shares her mantra of dealing with online scrutiny and much more.
Here are a few edited excerpts from an exclusive chit-chat;
What inspired you to start your content creation journey?
I was working in a 9-5system and I always had the urge to do something different, something entertaining - I began as a blogger and then I saw the scope of Influencers becoming a thing and When Musically happened to India (now known as Tik Tok) I knew this was going to be a hit and I did not want to miss out so I started making content in my lunch breaks/after hours. My videos got a lot of attention from the audience and then I never looked back.
Did you always have a passion for entertaining and connecting with an audience?
Yes, When I was a kid, I loved performing in front of an audience - My friends, my family at school/college, etc. and now I get to do it in front of so many people! I absolutely love it.
Did your parents/close people support you?
At first, it was all very new for them, as it was for everyone else! I would say because they got to see how both my worlds were my job and the content creation journey, they saw how content creation changed my life and how happy I was doing what I was doing. So luckily, they were very supportive.
How do you come up with ideas daily?
I consume a lot of content and I think it really is the key - when you watch something it makes you think and then you try to give your twist to it - Consuming content gets my brain going and I really enjoy directing my videos and trying new things.
Another factor that has really helped me is Relatability - We have seen so much happening in our lives and audiences really enjoy it when they can relate with you so I note down instances and create content out of it.
Who do you think is your strong competitor in content creation?
I think everyone has their journey and everyone is doing amazing things so I don't feel competitive that way - I think I'm just happy doing things better than I used to do.
But I do Admire Awez - He's very passionate and extremely hardworking when it comes to creating content - He puts his soul into it and that motivates me to do even more.
People Admire you and Awez how would you define your relationship with him?
We're all a big family now, not just Awez, but even Anam, Mohammed Ali, Zaid, our teams, and our dogs. We literally eat together, sleep together, live together and I'm glad that we're a unit! These are relationships I know I have for life.
Do you take responsibility for the kind of content you share on social media to ensure it doesn't influence your audience in the wrong way?
Absolutely- Social Media is very powerful and I do feel responsible while putting out content. I put in a lot of thought before I put something out, everyone has access to social media even the kids - And I never promote anything that could have a bad influence so yes,I try to be careful with my choices
How do you engage and interact with your audience? Can you share some strategies or approaches that have helped you build a strong connection with your followers?
To be honest - I try to be myself and there's no strategy as such
I love talking to my audience. So, I keep going live from my socials and I randomly talk about my day, I try to be active on my stories & I keep replying to their comments. You just need to be there for them and I think that's worked for me.
How do you handle criticism or negative feedback from your audience? Do you have any strategies for maintaining a positive mindset in the face of online scrutiny?
I would say that over time I have learned to deal with it - I have reached a point where I know I shouldn't take it SO seriously that it starts affecting me and I try to do things that make me happy and if there's constructive feedback I do try to work on it and go back to doing my work then, I move on.
Your advice for a beginner in content creation.
A: Believe in yourself! Don't lose yourself while trying to follow others
