Daring fashion risk you've taken? Was it worth it?

It has to be freeing myself from the clutches of wearing a bra under every outfit. That's just me. I feel more comfortable & confident without one now.

How does fashion empower you?

Fashion comes with a responsibility too. It touches people's lives in ways one cannot even imagine. Talking about serious issues while doing what you love and building a community around it is empowering.

Biggest fashion mistake and what did you learn?

When I first started as a fashion blogger, I used to listen to other people's opinions about my looks, neglecting that inner child who used to love playing dress up, not caring if her yellow top would match those lil blue jeans of hers. Now I listen to her more and guess what, she's a great stylist and helps me out a lot.

Whose wardrobe would you switch with for a day?

My mom's and her friend's wardrobe for sure. Imagine having classic vintage pieces in today's era. WOW

One fashion item worth splurging on?

Basics always. They never go out of style and you can style them in so many different ways.

How does culture influence your fashion sense?

Culture indeed influences fashion, but for me, fashion can also influence culture by shaping how people express themselves and perceive the world around them. India's rich heritage of handloom fabrics continues to shape fashion trends and I am proud to be part of that great tradition.

Most important fashion lesson from family?

To own what you have at any point in life with confidence. There was a time when we didn't have a lot of money so I used to style, for example, my father's pants and that got featured in a magazine too. No matter the price tag, wear anything and everything with confidence.

Favorite era for fashion inspiration?

90's for sure. Their models, actors, music videos, styling, presentation everything still holds a special place in my heart and it all still inspires me in my everyday styling.

How do you prioritize sustainability in fashion?

I am always thrifting. I love to shop locally and when I am not thrifting, I am DIY'ing my looks, for example creating a top from a scarf. We also have our website: ShopSoniaWishlist where we introduce our audience to some very stylish pre-loved fashion handpicked by me.

Dream dinner guest: fashion icon, dead or alive?

For me stylists are the real fashion icons as they are the ones doing all the behind-the-scenes hard work, leaving us in awe of what is presented on screens. I'd love to have a dream dinner with Karishma Kapoor's stylist because their styling in her 90s movies is just mind-blowing.
