Excerpts...
You've been in the industry for a while now. How do you look back at your content creation journey?
I look back at it with a lot of pride. I feel like I've been doing it for so many years now, and sometimes I feel a little tired. You feel like you don't have any new ideas because so much is happening. But that's just on bad days. On most days, I obviously love what I do. I'm very grateful that I'm a part of something that happens to be my dream now, and I enjoy making content so much.
What was that one inspiration or realization that made you decide content creation was going to be a full-fledged career?
One incident when money started coming in... I think in any career, especially in artistic fields, most of us artists don't get money right away, and it's going to be a struggle. I think for any of us, it's a variant that there's some sort of money, some sort of income or revenue coming in. Obviously, because I was working in a 9-to-5 job, to leave that and jump into something unplanned and unstable was a risk. But I think slowly, when I was working with IDiva and making videos, I could see the scope that if I leave and do my own thing, I'll get opportunities and inquiries.
What was your parents' reaction when you quit your job and decided to go for full-time content creation?
For the longest time, I didn't even tell them properly what I was planning. Obviously, they were seeing my videos with my company, and they were already worried because they were like, "This is not your job profile, right? What are you doing?" I kept telling them I was doing okay, but then when I decided to take the leap, it was hard to tell them I was going to leave my job and jump into this alone. They didn't get it initially.
How has your life changed since becoming a celebrity, especially when you visit your hometown?
Things have changed, but not instantly. When I go back to my hometown, I feel a sense of familiarity. People still treat me normally, which I love. I need that rootedness and groundedness around me. Everybody changes after your success, and that can feel weird. But mostly, everybody is proud of me, and that's sweet. They come and tell me how proud they feel about my journey, and how I've inspired them to push their children in certain fields.
You often talk about body positivity and breaking societal norms. What's the thought process behind this?
Growing up, I didn't see representation for myself. I was skinny, and I didn't see women like me in movies. I felt like I wasn't on the extreme side of things, but I still didn't see enough women who looked like me. When I started doing social media, I wanted to give representation to other girls like me. I want people to feel better about themselves when they watch me, not worse. I try to bring up conversations about body positivity and neutrality, especially for women. We need reminders that we're as beautiful as we are, and we don't need to change or worry about societal beauty standards.
You recently made the shift from content creation to acting. How was that experience?
I was getting auditions, and I did a show for Netflix that was released during the pandemic. I've always had a desire to act, but I didn't have the confidence to say it out loud. I think every second person in our country has the acting bug, and I'm no exception. I wanted to try once, and I'm glad I did.
